MAX8649 1.8A DC-to-DC step-down switching regulator

Maxim Semiconductor introduced the MAX8649 high-efficiency DC-to-DC step-down switching regulator which delivers up to 1.8A of output current and operate from a 2.5V to 5.5V input voltage range .

The output voltage of MAX8649 is I2C programmable from 0.75V to 1.38V . The high operating frequency fixed at  a 3.25MHz  fixed frequency minimizes the size of external components.

Using the on chip DAC allows adjustment of the output voltage in 10mV steps.

The MAX8649 require few external components and include many features like : 1.8A Guaranteed Output Current , I2C Programmable VOUT (750mV to 1.38V in 10mV Steps) ,  2.5V to 5.5V Input Supply , On-Chip FET and Synchronous Rectifier , Fixed 3.25MHz PWM Switching Frequency , Synchronizes to 13MHz 19.2MHz  or 26MHz System Clock when Available , Small 1.0μH Inductor , Power-Save Mode Increases Light Load Efficiency , Overvoltage and Overcurrent Protection, Thermal Shutdown Protection , 400kHz I2C Interface and many others which make it ideal for portable applications like : Cell Phones , Smartphones ,PDAs , MP3 Players or other devices .

The output voltage is dynamically adjusted using the VID0 and VID1 logic inputs which allow selection between four predefined operation modes/voltage  configurations with three programmable parameters:

• Output voltage from 0.75V to 1.38V in 10mV steps

• Mode of operation: Forced PWM or power save

• Enable/disable of synchronization of switching frequency to external clock source

LTC3606B synchronous buck regulator

Linear Technology introduced the  LTC3606B monolithic synchronous buck regulator using a constant frequency current mode architecture and a maximum output current of 800mA .

LTC3606B supports an input supply voltage range from 2.5V to 5.5 .

High efficiency , low dropout  make the  LTC3606B  ideal for Li-Ion and USB powered applications.

The operating frequency of the LTC3606B is internally set at 2.25MHz which allow using  of small surface mount inductors.

LTC3606B  require few external components and it have many build in  features like : Programmable Average Input Current Limit ,Up to 96% Efficiency , Low Noise Pulse-Skipping Operation at Light Loads , Input Voltage Range: 2.5V to 5.5V ,  Output Voltage Range: 0.6V to 5V ,  2.25MHz Constant-Frequency Operation , Low Dropout Operation, Internal Soft-Start , Current Mode Operation for Excellent Line and Load Transient Response , ±2% Output Voltage Accuracy  , Short-Circuit Protected.

LTC3606B synchronous buck regulator

MCP1804 low dropout voltage regulator

Microchip introduced the MCP1804 low dropout voltage regulator which can deliver up to 150 mA of current while consuming only 50 μA of quiescent current (typical, 1.8V ≤ VOUT ≤ 5.0V).

The MCP1804 has a wide input voltage range from 2.0V to 28.0V.

The output voltage tolerance of the MCP1804 is a maximum of ±2% and line regulation is ±0.15% typical at +25°C.

The low dropout input and output is stable with 0.1 μF of input and output capacitance.

The MCP1804 have many build in features like : 150 mA Output Current , Low Drop Out Voltage  260 mV typical @ 20 mA VR = 3.3V , 50 μA Typical Quiescent Current , 0.01 μA Typical Shutdown Current ,Input Operating Voltage Range: 2.0V to 28.0V , Standard Output Voltage Options (1.8V, 2.5V, 3.0V, 3.3V, 5.0V, 10.0V, 12.0V) , Output Voltage Accuracy: ±2% , output voltages from 1.8V to 18.0V in 0.1V increments are available upon request , stable with ceramic output capacitors , Current Limit Protection With Current Foldback , Shutdown pin , High PSRR: 50 dB typical @ 1 kHz .

MCP1804 low dropout voltage regulator can be used in many applications like : Cordless Phones, Wireless Communications , PDAs, Notebook and Netbook Computers ,Digital Cameras , Microcontroller Power , Car Audio and Navigation Systems and other .
